Stealthily Healthy Chocolate Oat Cookies!


Both kids and adults enjoy these tasty yet stealthily healthy chocolate oat cookies. With gluten-free oats and flax as the base, you eliminate processed flours and swap in fiber and good fats. Then, by combining applesauce with maple syrup, you reduce the amount of sugar needed while still keeping them sweet. By using a chopped dark chocolate bar, the cookies have nice slivers of antioxidant-rich dark chocolate throughout. Eat one with breakfast, enjoy as a pre-workout snack, or pack in your child’s lunch without any guilt.

  • 2 cup gluten-free oats
  • 2 Tbsp flaxseed meal
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp salt


  • ½ cup peanut butter
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • ½ cup applesauce
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla


  • ½ 3 oz dark chocolate bar, chopped (recommend: Lily’s extra dark stevia sweetened)
  • ½ cup walnuts, chopped

If you are unable to source organic, we definitely recommend non-GMO. GMO foods are likely treated with herbicides, especially glyphosate, because they are engineered to resist it. (Glyphosate kills the weeds, but not the GMO crop.)


  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Grind 1 cup oats in food processor until consistency of flour.
  3. Next, combine oat flour with remaining oats and dry ingredients in a large bowl.
  4. Add all wet ingredients to the food processor and mix until smooth.
  5. Pour the wet mixture into the dry and stir to combine.
  6. Chop the walnuts and chocolate bar, then fold into the dough. Note, the mixture will be tough.
  7. Scoop out 20 large spoonfuls of cookie dough onto the baking sheets. Don’t be afraid to use your hands and get sticky.
  8. Using a fork, flatten out each cookie.
  9. Bake for 12 to 14 minutes, until lightly brown.
  10. 10. Cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes. Transfer to cooling racks. Enjoy warm and once cooled store in an airtight container.
